Headway Shropshire started in 1989 from small beginnings. It was originally set up by two Occupational Therapists and a Physiotherapist who saw there was a lack of support for individuals with an acquired brain injury. They first met in the Railway Club in Shrewsbury until 1992 when The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital offered them use of an area on the south side of the hospital.

In 1993 Headway Shropshire opened its doors. We started out operating two days per week, in the following year we grew quickly with clients, staff and volunteers. In 1999 plans begun for funding our very own building and in 2002 we moved to our current premises called Headway House on the Oxon Business Park in Shrewsbury

Today we employ a team of staff and operate a Community Wellbeing Centre three days a week plus a domiciliary care and support service called ABICS (Acquired Brain Injury Care & Support.)
